I did not always have my heart set on becoming a doula. In fact, until my second pregnancy I did not even know doulas existed. I have a degree in Merchandise Marketing and began my career in retail, wholesale, and product development in the corporate world. After the care I received from my midwife and the student midwife when I had my second baby girl, I knew that I wanted to support women in the very same way. My first daughter was born in a hospital because I wasn't aware that there were options and I was not very confident in my ability. Toward the end of my
pregnancy with my second baby girl, I knew that I wanted to support women in the very same way. My first daughter was born in a hospital because I wasn't aware that there were options and I was not very confident in my ability. Toward the end of my second pregnancy I became aware of other options and transferred care to a wonderful midwife. Little did I know, that I would have to transfer during active labor back to the hospital. My midwives stayed there with me through it all. I will have to share more of that story another time, but I believe that experience has allowed me to relate to other women and their journeys as I serve them. That birth experience changed everything for me as a Christ follower, woman, friend, mother, and wife. It caused my values and priorities to shift. Birth is powerful!
I feel that our culture and society has diminished the value of birth and the process. God has chosen us women to bring forth life. Birth is not just another moment in time but a moment where miracles happen. Women are becoming mothers, men are becoming fathers, families are growing, and a new life is being born. I believe your story matters. Motherhood is Kingdom work! My heart is for women to be educated, supported, and for their birth experiences to be cherished.
I live in Rockwall/ Fate and my husband and I serve on staff at The Lakes Assembly. I am passionate about ministry and sharing the truth of Jesus. We have two beautiful daughters, Milah & Norie. I am obsessed with coffee and I love to craft and make new things. I love all things turquoise & teal. When we are able our family loves to travel, camp, and hike. A recent favorite trip was hiking the narrows in Zion National Park!
"I had a wonderful birthing experience with BirthWell Doulas. My doula was Kristin. I chose a hospital birth but I wanted to deliver as naturally as possible. Kristin really helped facilitate that. She had a great balance of both guiding me through positions she recommended and listening to me and what I felt my body needed. She also supported me through the process of forming a birth plan and I never felt pressure from her to do it a certain way. I felt confident going into the birth that Kristin would help me have my voice with the hospital staff if needed and would also not over step or be over bearing. My main comfort was in her training and knowledge of the birth process and what helps that process. I knew that if labor was not progressing well she would know what to do to help my body open and the baby move and descend. If medical intervention had been needed, I would have been able to have peace about it knowing that we had given opportunity to a natural process. Kristin also offers prayer during labor if her client desires it. For me, it brought much comfort having my doula pray over me during contractions.I give her 5 stars!" - Ruth Lacey
